Creating a basic routine made easy
What does a basic routine consist of?
A basic skincare routine consists of three fundamental steps. Essential components include a cleanser, a booster or serum, and a moisturizer. These core products meet your skin's basic needs, keeping it healthy and well-nourished. During the day, you should also apply sunscreen as a fourth step to protect your skin and prevent damage from UV radiation.
Below we describe the difference between a morning and an evening routine and how you can choose your products.
Morning routine
In the morning, the focus is on protecting the skin throughout the day, e.g. from environmental pollutants, free radicals, UV rays, etc. Products that provide moisture, strengthen the skin barrier, and contain antioxidants are particularly suitable for this purpose.
The first step in your routine is facial cleansing. In the morning, this washes away all the sweat, dead skin cells, and bacteria that have accumulated on your skin overnight. Cleansing isn't just about leaving your skin clean, though. Applying subsequent products to cleansed skin also allows them to absorb much more effectively.
You should choose your cleanser to suit your skin type. We recommend our Purifying Gel Cleanser for oily and combination skin. The Hydrating Cream Cleanser is especially suitable for dry skin, but also works well for balanced skin. Our Calming Oil Cleanser is suitable for all skin types.
For a basic routine, you should start with an easily tolerated booster or serum and then, after an adjustment period, expand and vary your range as needed.
For beginners, we particularly recommend our Hyaluron Booster, Niacinamide Booster , and Barrier Booster. All three are very well tolerated and offer a fantastic range of effects on their own.
Hyaluronic acid is one of the best-known anti-aging ingredients. With the Hyaluron Booster, you can intensively replenish your skin's moisture. This active ingredient also helps the skin retain the gained moisture better and for longer. As a result, fine lines caused by dryness are smoothed out.
The Niacinamide Booster is a true all-rounder. It strengthens the skin barrier, promotes collagen production, and helps your skin regenerate faster. It also reduces blemishes and age spots. Finally, niacinamide also acts as an antioxidant, protecting your skin from free radicals.
Our Barrier Booster lives up to its name. It's designed to optimally support the skin's natural barrier. It can not only restore a disrupted barrier function but also maintain a healthy barrier.
Each of these three boosters fits perfectly into a basic routine.
Just like with cleansers, you should choose your moisturizer according to your skin type. In our range of day creams, you can choose between the Calming Moisturizer , which is suitable for all skin types, and the Rich Care Moisturizer , which is especially designed for people with dry skin.
The last step in your morning routine should always be sunscreen. Sun protection is always important, both in summer and winter. After all, the goal in the morning is to protect your skin, and harmful UV rays always find a way to penetrate it.
Our Daily SPF 50+ Moisturizer can be used by all skin types. It is non-greasy, absorbs quickly, and leaves no unsightly residue.
Evening routine
Unlike the morning routine, the focus in the evening is on skin regeneration. Strengthening the skin barrier, which has been stressed by the day, is also beneficial in the evening. Furthermore, the active ingredients used in the evening should be particularly nourishing and stimulate cell renewal.
Generally, photosensitive ingredients are often used in evening skincare routines. However, these are often very active ingredients that require an adjustment period. As a newcomer, you should save these for later and first get your skin used to gentler ingredients.
In the evening, you can certainly use the same cleanser as in the morning. However, you can also consider using a second cleanser. This can actually be very beneficial. With so-called double cleansing, you first cleanse with an oil-based cleanser like our Calming Oil Cleanser. Makeup and sunscreen are often more difficult to remove from the skin, and that's where the oil cleanser comes in handy. It essentially removes the most stubborn impurities. Afterward, you cleanse again with a second cleanser suited to your skin type.
It's quite possible that your skin has different needs in the evening than in the morning. For example, your skin might feel dry and dehydrated in the morning and oily in the evening, or vice versa. If you feel your skin needs a different kind of cleansing in the evening, using a second cleanser makes sense.
In the evening, you can stick with the same booster as in the morning. Or you can use one booster in the morning and another in the evening. Because of niacinamide's antioxidant properties, it would make sense, for example, to use the Niacinamide Booster in the morning and one of the other boosters in the evening. Since many people prefer richer skincare in the evening, the Barrier Booster is perfect for nighttime use. It has a slightly creamy consistency and can regenerate your skin barrier overnight.
You can use the same moisturizer as in the morning. A separate night cream isn't strictly necessary. However, if you'd like a dedicated night cream to support your skin's regeneration, we recommend either our Night Cream or Rich Night Moisturizer . The Night Cream is suitable for all skin types. It does contain a small amount of retinol, so sensitive skin may need an adjustment period or dilution with another product initially. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using retinol. The Rich Night Moisturizer offers an alternative. It contains no retinol and can be used by expectant and new mothers. It's also specifically formulated for the needs of dry skin.
Creating a basic routine isn't that difficult if you follow the three fundamental steps. If you'd like personalized advice , our customer support team will be happy to help.
