What can the Calming Moisturizer do?

The name says it all: Our Calming Moisturizer soothes irritated skin and provides intense hydration. As a daily moisturizer, it perfectly protects the skin from external influences and strengthens its natural barrier function. It also supports the skin in all its regeneration processes. Thanks to its creamy, light texture, the Calming Moisturizer absorbs quickly.

This moisturizer is suitable for daily use and as a complement to your routine – for all skin types. Especially at the end of your morning routine, as the last product before sunscreen, its occlusive action makes it ideal for sealing in the previous skincare products.

What does "occlusive" actually mean? A brief explanation: Occlusives form a film on the skin that retains moisture stored within the skin, preventing it from being released to the surface. This prevents the skin from drying out. To achieve this, the film on the skin must be water-repellent; that is, it must consist of lipids/fats. This might initially sound like the cream would be very greasy. However, there are many lipids that are either already a natural component of the skin or are skin-like, meaning they can easily combine with the skin's sebum to provide a protective function. A skincare product that uses such substances doesn't feel heavy on the skin but has a light texture and absorbs quickly.

Moisture boost through glycerin

Glycerin is used in a wide variety of applications to moisturize and act as a humectant, including in skincare and calming moisturizers. It is particularly well-suited for use in cosmetics for two reasons: firstly, its ability to bind water, and secondly, because it is a natural component of the skin. This is why it is found as an ingredient in so many creams. Glycerin's water-binding capacity increases skin elasticity, making it appear smoother and plumping up wrinkles. Furthermore, glycerin is suitable for irritated skin, as it helps prevent irritation.

Occlusive with squalane

Before we look at the benefits of squalane, it's important to distinguish it from the similarly named squalene. Squalene is a naturally occurring substance in the skin. It's an unsaturated fatty acid found naturally in the skin. However, because squalene is less stable, squalane is used instead in skincare products. Squalane is also an oily substance, but it's non-greasy and absorbs quickly into the skin. A major advantage of squalane is its occlusive effect, which locks in other moisturizing substances within the skin. This active ingredient is suitable for all skin types and conditions. Due to its similarity to the skin's own squalene, it is also well-tolerated.

When people think of squalane, they often immediately think of shark exploitation. It used to be common practice to extract the active ingredient from shark livers, and this practice still exists to some extent today. Protective Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps to improve skin hydration. It generally increases the skin's moisture content and also has an occlusive effect, allowing water to be retained more effectively. Additionally, vitamin E also protects against free radicals. Last but not least, this active ingredient in the Calming Moisturizer is also suitable for slow-aging. Like many other vitamins, vitamin E promotes the formation of collagen. This ensures the skin's firmness and elasticity. Increased collagen synthesis makes wrinkles less pronounced. Centella Asiatica has long been known and valued as a medicinal plant, for example in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is not surprising, as it promotes wound healing. It also has a moisturizing effect, and well-hydrated skin heals faster and is generally healthier. Even beyond acute wounds, this medicinal plant helps the skin regenerate. Furthermore, Centella Asiatica has even more benefits that make it a sought-after ingredient in many skincare products. It has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and skin-soothing properties. It also stimulates collagen synthesis, which has a firming effect on the skin. This active ingredient not only reduces wrinkles but also scars. Centella Asiatica even has an antioxidant effect. Because shea butter contains many different fatty acids, it already offers a comprehensive complex of active ingredients. Therefore, and because of its excellent tolerability, it is such a popular ingredient in many cosmetic products. In the Calming Moisturizer, it is primarily intended to soothe itching and irritation. It also leaves rough and chapped skin soft and supple again.

To all the benefits of the Calming Moisturizer, there's now another: it's available again in an airless dispenser. Our community has long requested the return of the popular airless dispensers, and now we can finally grant that wish for the Calming Moisturizer. The airless dispenser allows for convenient product dispensing with a pleasant amount per pump. Because the cream isn't pumped up through a tube, but rather the inner base of the dispenser is gradually lifted with each pump, no product remains in the bottle. Furthermore, the new packaging is much lighter and therefore easier to transport – whether on vacation or simply for carrying in a handbag, backpack, or similar. With sustainability in mind, we make sure to use easily recyclable plastic.
