Summer routine: Our favorites for sunny days
What does our skin need in summer?
In summer, skin faces different challenges than during other seasons. It's hot and often dry. High temperatures and sweating cause the skin to lose a lot of moisture. Swimming in seawater or swimming pools puts additional strain on it.
What it needs, firstly, is plenty of moisture to compensate for the increased water loss during the hot season. Secondly, the skin needs antioxidants to protect it from free radicals. And finally, adequate UV protection is essential.
In summer, skin naturally produces more sebum. This makes it oilier, so you need to use less oil in your skincare routine. Many people find rich textures too heavy in the heat, so they prefer lighter formulations. Summer skincare products should therefore primarily be moisturizing and contain fewer lipids. Of course, your perfect summer routine will depend on your skin type, skin condition, and general predisposition. We've gathered our favorite recommendations for the hot season from our product range and hope to inspire you to create your own personalized summer routine.
Morning routine for summer
Every routine starts with a cleanser. You should always choose one that suits your skin type. For the summer months, our Hydrating Cream Cleanser offers an advantage over other cleansers because it gives your skin a moisture boost right from the first step of your routine.
Next, you can spray on the aloe vera spray as a moisturizing toner. The convenient spray nozzle makes it quick and easy. Aloe vera is a great source of moisture. You can then lock this in with the following products to keep your skin hydrated for longer.
Afterwards, you can apply the Vitamin C15 Booster . Vitamin C is one of the most effective antioxidants. It also helps prevent hyperpigmentation, which can develop more easily in summer due to sun exposure. The booster has a light, liquid texture, making it ideal for the summer months.
Our Hyaluron Booster is indispensable for the warmer months. It combines the ability to moisturize the skin while simultaneously locking in moisture. This makes it the perfect complement to the Aloe Vera Spray. For an extra refreshing effect in the morning, you can also store the booster in the refrigerator.
Optionally, if you prefer a richer texture, you can skip the Vitamin C15 Booster, go directly to the Hyaluronic Acid Booster after the Aloe Vera Spray, and then apply the Vitamin C20 Booster as a light day cream. The Vitamin C20 Booster has a slightly creamier consistency, but still feels light on the skin and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. Like the Vitamin C15 Booster, it provides your skin with essential antioxidants.
Typically, after serums and boosters, a day cream is applied in the morning. But is that necessary in summer? It depends. If you feel that your skin benefits from a day cream even in summer, then by all means continue. A moisturizer with a low lipid content is a good choice in this case. However, most creams are rather rich and can quickly become "too much" for the skin. Many people therefore find a light hydrating serum combined with a day cream containing sunscreen more comfortable and then prefer to use a rich night cream in the evening.
Last but not least: sun protection. Our Daily SPF 50+ Moisturizer offers the perfect combination of a moisturizing day cream and UV protection. With an SPF of 50+, it protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. It feels pleasant on the skin; it's lightweight and leaves no white residue. When applying sunscreen, please remember that only a sufficient amount of cream provides the necessary protection. For your face, use approximately four pumps; the same applies to your neck and décolleté. Reapply sunscreen after two to three hours or after swimming.
Evening routine for summer
The evening routine also begins with facial cleansing. In the evening, the so-called "double cleansing" is recommended. First, you remove any remaining sunscreen from your skin with an oil-based cleanser like our Calming Oil Cleanser , and then use a second cleanser for a deeper pore cleanse. Depending on how oily your skin has become throughout the day, the Purifying Gel Cleanser might be preferable in the evening, as it removes sebum particularly well.
Afterwards, you can use our Niacinamide Booster . It also ensures less oily skin and strengthens the skin barrier, which is stressed throughout the day. The active ingredient niacinamide is suitable as an after-sun treatment because it prevents pigment damage caused by UV radiation and thus prevents hyperpigmentation. The booster also promotes the skin's ability to retain moisture.
Hyaluronic acid boosters should also be part of your evening routine in summer. The moisturizing and water-binding properties of hyaluronic acid are simply unbeatable.
To complete your routine, we recommend our Night Cream . It helps your skin regenerate overnight and contains retinol. This active ingredient is also an antioxidant, but due to its sensitivity to light, it cannot be applied in the morning. Using retinol in the evening and vitamin C in the morning provides a powerful combination of antioxidants. If you prefer to avoid retinol, you can alternatively use our Rich Night Moisturizer , which is particularly effective at supporting the skin barrier.
Extra care in between
Even outside of a regular routine, you can do something good for your skin in the summer with many products you can use in between.
You can apply our lip balm as needed. It offers SPF 50 and protects the delicate skin of your lips from both sun rays and dryness.
Throughout the day, you can also spritz on some aloe vera spray . It's perfect for replenishing lost moisture with just a few sprays and can be used all over your body. Since our aloe vera spray contains not only moisturizing but also soothing ingredients, it's ideal as an after-sun treatment. If you keep the spray in the refrigerator, it's even more refreshing.
In the evenings, you can add the Exfoliate Booster to your routine once or twice a week. It's a chemical peel that opens the pores to allow other active ingredients to penetrate. Thanks to the alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) it contains, the booster also provides additional hydration. AHAs not only have a positive effect on moisture levels, but they also help with sun damage such as hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure.
If your skin often becomes irritated in the summer due to sun exposure, you can soothe it with our Calming Mask . The colloidal oatmeal in the mask relieves irritation and redness.
In hot weather, skin needs moisture above all else. And that's where our Rich Hydration Mask comes in. It's packed with a variety of moisturizing ingredients and can provide optimal support for your skin during the summer. Simply apply, relax, and enjoy long-lasting hydration. You can even use the mask overnight as a leave-on treatment.
With plenty of moisture and some effective antioxidants, you and your skin are ready for summer. Whether you spend the sunny months at the beach, in the mountains, on your balcony, or in your own garden, with our summer routine your skin will always be well cared for and supplied with everything it needs.
